Barn Raising

Barn Raising

photo

Each spring we rally a team of Golden Slipper Club & Charities members to work together in an old-fashioned barn raising, on the beautiful grounds of the Golden Slipper Camp to work on a project that makes a significant contribution to the Camp. The Barn Raising Committee makes all the advanced preparations, recruits and motivates members, and oversees the successful completion of the project.

 Barn Raising is the birthplace of our Slipper's 'hands on' approach. It is where you form lifelong friendships, bonding with another member, or your son or daughter, during a weekend together constructing a project, power washing a bunk, or painting a shed. You then turn to Camp and see and feel the fruits of your labor. That's hands-on-giving you just can't buy. Try it!

We measure success as much by the fun, sense of pride, and camaraderie that everyone shares by working together as we do by the actual accomplishment of the project. Together we have:

  • Assembled a double water slide at the swimming pool;
  • Installed a playground for the younger children at Camp;
  • Constructed a skateboard park;
  • Prepared a bike trail through the Camp and woods;
  • Built a new deck on the Dining Hall.

How you can help the Barn Raising Committee

photoAre you a good project planner? Do you enjoy pulling together details and coordinating teams of people? The Barn Raising Committee is the committee for you to lend your leadership skills.

We also need many volunteers to help out during the weekend so we're sure to complete our project. Bring your friends and family and be part of a great weekend. You'll soon learn what makes Golden Slipper Club & Charities such an extraordinary "hands on" charitable organization.

To be part of the committee, find out about this year's project or to suggest an idea, please contact Jenn Scarlata at jscarlata@goldenslipper.org.
