Horatio Alger
Horatio Alger Award
Horatio Alger was a 19th Century author who wrote 135 novels telling "rags to riches" stories. Down-and-out boys rise in stature and financial success through their perseverance, bravery, determination, and compassion. The books characterized the American dream during that era.

In the spirit of Horatio Alger, Golden Slipper Camp honors a Golden Slipper Club & Charities member whose rise to riches and respectability in his or her community echoes that of Alger's storybook characters. The festivities to celebrate the honoree take place in August at Golden Slipper Camp with an awards ceremony, a barbeque, pool party, and a tour of the Camp. A bus transports celebrants to and from Camp for the daylong event.
